Betelgeuse Dimming Again: New Observations Reveal a Companion Star Influencing the Red Supergiant
The red supergiant Betelgeuse has experienced a renewed decrease in brightness, dropping from magnitude +0.5 to 0.95 in August. While the star's variability is well-documented since 1836, recent joint observations by the Hubble Space Telescope and the VLT have identified a companion star, Alpha Ori B, which may explain its long-term dimming cycles.
